Palletizing Heavy Cement Bags | Model 72B

Automating Heavy Bag Palletizing for Worker Safety and Efficiency

Changing Restrictions Don’t Stop Production

With Mexico’s Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) enforcing NOM-036 with the objective of preventing and controlling occupational risk factors associated with manual material handling in the workplace, one customer needed to automate their palletizing process—ensuring compliance, while at the same time increasing productivity.

The challenge: manually handling 25+ kg bags risked injury to workers and worker turnover was excessively high. Each bag needed to be precisely flattened, aligned, and stacked without tearing or shifting—all while meeting strict ergonomic standards.

Enter A-B-C’s customized Model 72B Automatic Bag Palletizer.

As bags enter the system, they’re automatically flattened and staged for even product distribution, reducing friction and enabling consistent layer formation. A pop-up bag orienter lifts and rotates each bag to form the pre-set pattern format of each layer, with all orientation settings managed through the machine’s Allen Bradley CompactLogix 5380 PLC and Allen Bradley PanelView Plus 1000 HMI.

Layers are built to pre-set stacking patterns, easily modified via the user-friendly HMI touchscreen. Squaring devices ensure clean, stable stacks—even with slightly misshaped bags.

Engineered for the heaviest loads, the 72B features a reinforced steel frame, counterweighted elevator table, and heavy-duty roller infeed—delivering long-term durability and reliable performance.

At the HMI, operators can monitor the line in real time, access detailed diagnostics, and receive preventive maintenance alerts with step-by-step instructions to minimize downtime.

The result? A fully automated palletizing system that forms square, secure loads ready for shipment, improving worker safety, increasing efficiency, and ensuring full NOM-036 compliance.
